Friends, colleagues and distinguished participants!

         Welcome to the NICE congress 2010. It is a great pleasure to welcome you to Thailand on behalf of the WFNR. Many congratulations to my friend and colleague Witsanu Kumthornthip for putting together such an excellent programme - something for everyone! I have been to a conference with my Thai friends in Pattaya before and I know it provides an excellent venue and I am really looking forward to the scientific talks, as well as our discussions and social contacts with many colleagues from across Asia.
